The church in 1892

The first chapel was built in 1809 and on 25 November 1810, the benediction of the chapel and of the cemetery went ahead, and the first mass was celebrated.  It was in use until 1850.  
On October 1st, 1825, Mgr Joseph Octave  Plessis published the decree for the establishment of St Georges de Cacouna parish.

The current church was built in 1845, welcomed its first faithful in 1848, consecrated in 1897 and was classified a historical monument en 1957. 
An organ of two claviers and eighteen plays was purchased in May 11, 1888 from M. Eusèbe Brodeur for $ 1 500.  Click here to view the details of the stop list for the organ and a picture.

Cacouna  had 3 presbyteries.   The current presbytery was built in 1836. 
It received many renovations through the years but the structure of origin was preserved.  It was classified a historical monument en 1957.

In 1941, the Capucins purchased the Montrose castle for 10 000 $.
After some renovations, the official inauguration was done on October 4, 1942. During the 70', the place was used as a cultural centre and for spiritual formation.
In 1980, the monastery became a centre for prayer «Le Cénacle». It's a centre for Christian renewal in the Sacred Spirit (inner healing by l'Agapèthérapie)

The Anglican church (St James of the Apostle) of the Romanesque style was built in 1865 from plans by Edwards Staveley, architect of Quebec city.  Religious offices are still held regularly during the summer.

The convent (Sœurs de la Charité)

On the 29th of August 1857, the steam boat May Flower docked at Rivière du Loup with as some of its passengers Sister Mallet and five of her companions of the Sœurs de la Charité.  The convent was built in 1857 and was their first establishment outside of Quebec city .

Centennial in 1957, it was demolished in 1976.

Presbyterians church
The Presbyterians church (St. Andrew) was built around 1869 in order to receive the  faithful, some villagers and et tourists.
In 1951 after a sharp reduction in the number of Anglophones families in Cacouna, this church closed its doors for good.  It was taken down in 1954.

1.  Carriage turned over 
On Sunday, Mrs. Georges Lebel from Cacouna was coming back from mass when her horse went out of control and in its wild and furious race, it tipped the carriage over and Mrs. Lebel was thrown against a fence, inflicting herself serious wounds.  She is in critical condition.

2 In Cacouna 
The Christmas holidays have been great and solemn as per the previous years.
M. Thomas Michaud from the 2nd RR was elected "marguillier" as a replacement to Mr. Edouard Beaulieu leaving the position. In the year 1898 there has been in the Parish of St-Georges de Cacouna, 62 baptisms, 12 weddings and 21 burials.
